Causewayside, located near the Edinburgh University is a circa 160 bed sustainable student living experience located in a dense urban setting.
It is intended that the scheme will be builtutilising offsite an prefabricated construction system. The manufacturing process, materials and insulation will provide an efficient envelope whilst close attention to design detail and understanding of construction techniques ensured the buildings’ air tightness which significantly reduced the buildings’ base energy loads. Prefabricated shower & toilet pods will also be used as part of the efficient construction process.
The building aims to achieve a BREEAM rating at design stage of >85% ‘Outstanding’. To achieve this, sustainability will be fundamental part of the schemes design, with a highly insulated responsibly sourced panelised frame solution responsible for the main structure. Biodiversity will also be a key feature to the scheme, with an extensive green roof system and the incorporation of bat and bird boxes integral to the buildings facade. It is intended that through the use of a gas fired combined heat and power (‘CHP’) power source, the scheme will able to reduce its carbon emissions by over 15% leading to EPC ‘A’ ratings being achieved throughout the site.
