Penderyn Whisky Distillery & Visitor Centre, Swansea

The Penderyn Whisky company identified the Hafod-Morfa Copperworks site in Swansea as a new base for a Distillery, Visitor Centre and shop. The proposed site forms an integral part of the wider masterplan for regeneration of the historically significant Hafod- Morfa Copperworks, with the Lower Swansea Valley.

The central focus is the creation of a new visitor attraction, being the first phase of the regeneration. This involved the renovation of two existing Grade II listed structures and some adaption to facilitate a new Whisky Distillery and Bonded Barrel Store, connected within a restored landscape area by a contemporary new-built Visitors Centre and shop.

The derelict Grade II Listed Powerhouse, which was the sites former canteen, had been without a roof for over 30 years. The meticulous restoration of the buildings masonry, cast iron metal work, new structural timberwork, roof and windows has enabled Penderyn Whisky to sympathetically insert their distillery production equipment.

This NLHF Funded project has been delivered for Swansea Council with Design Team members Hydrock, Holloways Partnership & TC Consult. The project was completed by John Weavers Construction in June 2023.
