Bombay Sapphire Turbine Bar & Cinema

The project involved the refurbishment and reconfiguration of two key spaces within the Visitor Experience at the historic Laverstoke Mill, home of Bombay Sapphire. The upgrade of the Visitor Experience included works to a listed building that traverses the River Test—an SSSI river running through the heart of the complex.

The works included the construction of the new Turbine Bar, offering a personalised cocktail experience that allows visitors to create their own custom G&T via a bespoke self-fill gin dispenser. The project also involved the creation of a new Cinema, featuring bespoke seating, a retractable cinema screen, and sliding Corten doors that open onto Laverstoke’s iconic glasshouses. Together with the Turbine Bar, the new Cinema forms the opening to the visitor tour element of the Bombay Sapphire Distillery.

The works required sensitive alterations to the fabric of the listed and surrounding buildings, while providing stunning new internal spaces.

This project continues GWPA’s long-standing involvement in the transformation of the Laverstoke Mill site, which began over a decade ago with the design and delivery of the conversion of the former paper mill into the new home of Bombay Sapphire. The Victorian mill complex in rural Hampshire, which includes a number of listed buildings, houses the production, storage, and distribution of the globally established brand, as well as visitor facilities including exhibition spaces, bars, a gin shop, and a café.
