Duresme Court, Durham

This student accommodation scheme contains 273 studio bedrooms, in Neville’s Cross west of Durham city centre. The redevelopment of this industrial site was an opportunity to improve the urban fabric along this gateway to the city.

The scheme is made up of various ensuite studio rooms that are arranged in several ways across the site in differing building types. Firstly along the street elevation, the rooms are aligned along common corridors creating flats of occupants and secondly they are clustered into townhouses to form various households.

By design the proposed accommodation is highly sustainable with significantly reduced consumption of energy and water.  This scheme follows in the footsteps of several other student accommodation schemes that have been accredited with a BREEAM ‘outstanding’ rating and this approach will be continued on this scheme.
