Palace House, NHRM Newmarket

A major development of an existing horse training yard, the NHRM is sited on what is thought to be the site of the oldest racing stables in the UK.

The National Horseracing Museum, incorporates both significant new build extension and conversion and refurbishment works to existing listed buildings that had fallen into a state of disrepair.

The scheme incorporates three key elements;

– Re-location of the existing NHRM to create a new improved facility with flexible display area.
– Creation of a new exhibition area for the British Supporting Arts Trust in a controlled environment.
– Conversion of an existing stables to create a working yard to house the charity, ‘Rehabilitation of Racehorses’. Interaction with the public is also included and a key part of the design.

Funding for the development included the successful award of Heritage Lottery monies with matching public/private investment.
