Merlin Point Student Residences, Coventry

The scheme provides 155 student bedrooms and EA bedrooms in en-suite studio and cluster flat format on a site located at the ‘gateway’ to the Coventry University Technology Park on Paradise Street, Parkside.

The proposed residential accommodation will regenerate a brownfield site that was previously occupied by industrial and manufacturing works and until recently housed the London Road Social Club. The site lies 200m south of the Coventry University Campus close to the city centre.

The student accommodation sits above a ground floor which incorporates a student reception area and communal social spaces fronting Deasy Road. The building above is formed in two separate forms that are each treated slightly differently. The studio block is principally clad in metal cladding defining the building form and the floor levels. The façade is broken with full height glazing and coloured metal panels creating a vibrant pattern. The cluster flat block to the east is clad in brick, with full height glazing and deep reveals to express the mass of brickwork.

The timber frame structure and ensuite bathroom pods will be manufactured offsite allowing close attention to details while also providing an efficient construction process.

The scheme is designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ assessment rating and due to on site this summer.
