Science Museum Group National Collections Centre

Science Museum Group (SMG) Wroughton is the large object and library and archives store for the SMG.

SMG Building ONE will be a fit-for-purpose facility that will house and manage the SMG collection and accommodate managed public visits, support object conservation work and provide staff facilities.

The building consists of a total area of circa 400,000 sq ft of object storage as well as support spaces such as a conservation laboratory, conservation workshop, loading bays and a collection study.

The site is situated on the former Wroughton Airfield and falls within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The scheme received planning consent in 2018, with construction beginning in January 2019.

GWP Architecture provided architectural services to SMG, before being novated to the contractor.
