Plaza CEW Conservation & Regeneration Award
We are pleased to announce that the Plaza mixed-use development in Port Talbot, Wales, won the Conservation & Regeneration Award at Friday's CEW Awards. The scheme, which opened last year for tenant YMCA and client Neath Port Talbot CBC, provides a series of new spaces for the benefit of the local community.
The development retains the recognizable, Grade II listed art deco-style iconic front portion, which includes the foyer, projection room, offices, two retail units, stairs, and toilets of the existing cinema. These elements have been sympathetically repaired and restored, incorporating careful and considered adaptations of the building.
The new section at the rear houses a multi-purpose hall, café, gym, multi-purpose dojo/yoga room, digital recording studio, and office space. The project was completed on site by BAM Construction, with Structural and MEP consultants from Hydrock (now Stantec) and Asbri Planning acting as the planning consultant.
