Achilles Street, Lewisham

The Achilles Street site is an infill plot, bounded by 333-337 New Cross Road to the south and Achilles Street to the north. New Cross Road is a busy high street with a number of retail, food and service providers located along its length. Goldsmiths University is located to the south of New Cross Road. Achilles Street houses a number of residential flats and is bounded to the north by Fordham Park.

The proposal consists of a new 11 storey building, providing 47 student bedrooms. The project links to the adjacent 333-337 New Cross Road scheme – also student accommodation – with communal spaces and services (such as social spaces, communal courtyard, reception lobby and cycle storage) shared between the three proposed buildings.

The project aims to provide high quality and sustainable student accommodation that provides attractive amenity spaces for residents. The scheme also aims to provide an active street frontage through the inclusion of high quality student development fronting Achilles Street, Lewisham.

Materially, the design seeks to reinforce the existing neighbourhood identity, and therefore a sense of belonging.

GWPA have been appointed to perform the role of Architect, Landscape Architect, Heritage Architect and Lead Designer.
