Sustainable design
Our design philosophy is centred on sustainable low energy buildings, from inception to completion and beyond. Every opportunity is taken to deliver creative solutions to developments, which provide economic, social and environmental benefits.
GWP Architecture are accredited with ISO 14001, the benchmark used worldwide for environmental management systems. We are also one of the small number of practices who are registered BREEAM, LEED and Code for Sustainable Homes assessors.
GWP Architecture adopt a truly holistic approach to sustainable design, looking at development in terms of embodied energy as well as energy in use, reducing construction waste through to eventual recycling. Particular care is taken in the specification of building materials to create healthy internal environments that are pollutant and VOC free.
We adopt a pragmatic approach to sustainable design, avoiding technology with extended ‘pay-back’ periods. Designing in adaptability may be equally important in delivering sustainability, the most sustainable feature of any building is that it enjoys a long and useful life.
GWP Architecture are at the forefront of sustainable affordable design and our work has been recognised by a series of awards:
– UK BREEAM Award winners 2008, 2010 & 2012
– Highest ever design stage BREEAM assessment for ‘The Green’ student residential scheme for the University of Bradford
– First project to achieve BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ under the 2011 assessment criteria
