Plaza Port Talbot Scheme Approved

The Plaza mixed use development in Port Talbot, Wales was today awarded planning permission. The scheme for tenant YMCA and the client Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (NPTCBC) will provide a series of new spaces for the benefit of the local community.

The development will retain the recognisable, Grade II listed art deco-style iconic front portion, which contains the foyer, projection room, offices, shops, stairs and toilets of the existing cinema. These elements will be repaired and restored with some sympathetic adaptation of the building.  The new portion to the rear will house a 250 seat mutli purpose hall, café, gym, mutli purpose dojo / yoga room, digital recording studio, office space and two retail units.

The authority’s planning committee unanimously backed the redevelopment and the scheme now awaits Welsh Government listed building consent prior to enable building work to begin.
