Raising the Roof of the Palace Theatre

Contractor R&M Williams are currently on site carefully stripping the decaying interior from the building and repairing the exterior. Behind plaster that is being removed, they have found numerous blocked up doorways leading from 6 original staircases and discovered the original orchestra pit in front of the stage. The existing damaged roof has also been fully removed, exposing the large timber trusses that are to be repaired and retained for display. The building has also been fully wrapped and covered with temporary scaffolding protecting it and allowing the building to begin to dry out.

New insertions will soon be installed to enable this Grade II listed theatre to provide modern workspace accommodation for Tramshed Tech, who will be the tenant of the scheme on completion.

GWPA are leading a highly experienced design team that includes structural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineers Hydrock; project managers and quantity surveyors TC Consult to deliver the project for Swansea Council.
